In this episode, Mr. GV Subramanyam, Founder, Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer of Panacea Medical Technologies, talks about innovations in cancer care and the importance of multidisciplinary teams. Mr. GV Subramanyam says-
“We take into consideration what is going to be the difference between what we will deliver versus what is already existing in the market. Some of what we are doing is already existing in the market so there is nothing like we have brought in some solution which is out of the world but what we are confident about is that we have brought in a solution which is actually relevant to countries like India, Africa, and several other low income countries. The relevance is that they do not have the CAPEX as well as the OPEX money to run such a complicated machine. In most of these countries, people don’t have trained man power. These are the three items we have to look at when we want to make access to radiotherapy to every person across in their domicile.
Applied Research and Engineering, these are the two things I can co-relate to- in these areas, the kind of curriculum that is there has to be revised. Very often these days, maybe in every third year curriculum has to be re-visited, that will actually make things relevant to what is there. Today what is taught in college is focused on some discipline, actual real life is multidisciplinary. We encounter on a daily basis, so many different faculties and different skill sets that we need to even conduct our normal life. That is a fact of life.
So if we cannot assemble a multidisciplinary team to actually do a task which is really good and which matters, such a thing can be done only by multidisciplinary teams. And the one thing that is required is, the person who is going to drive these should have the ability to understand different perspectives of the team members who come in in such an interdisciplinary team. Only with such kinds of interdisciplinary teams can we actually achieve something.”

विचार करते हैं कि हम जो वितरित करेंगे और जो बाजार में पहले से मौजूद है, उसके बीच क्या अंतर होने वाला है। हम जो कुछ कर रहे हैं वह पहले से ही बाजार में मौजूद है, इसलिए ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं है जैसे हम कुछ समाधान लाए हैं जो दुनिया से बाहर है लेकिन हमें विश्वास है कि हम एक ऐसा समाधान लेकर आए हैं जो वास्तव में भारत, अफ्रीका और कई अन्य कम आय वाले देश जैसे देशों के लिए सार्थक है। सार्थकता यह है कि इस तरह की जटिल मशीन को चलाने के लिए उनके पास कैपेक्स के साथ-साथ ओपेक्स का पैसा नहीं है। इनमें से अधिकांश देशों में, लोगों के पास प्रशिक्षित जनशक्ति नहीं है। ये तीन चीजें हैं जिन पर हमें ध्यान देना होगा जब हम अपने निवास स्थान में प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को रेडियोथेरेपी तक पहुंच बनाना चाहते हैं।
एप्लाइड रिसर्च एंड इंजीनियरिंग, ये दो चीजें हैं जिनसे मैं सह-संबंधित- इन क्षेत्रों में हो सकता हूं, जिस तरह का पाठ्यक्रम है, उसे संशोधित करना होगा। बहुत बार इन दिनों, शायद हर तीसरे वर्ष के पाठ्यक्रम को फिर से देखना पड़ता है, जो वास्तव में चीजों को संगत बना देगा। आज कॉलेज में जो पढ़ाया जाता है वह किसी अनुशासन पर केंद्रित होता है, वास्तविक में वास्तविक जीवन बहुविषयक होता है। हम दैनिक आधार पर इतने सारे अलग-अलग संकायों और विभिन्न कौशल सेटों का सामना करते हैं, जिन्हें हमें अपना सामान्य जीवन भी संचालित करने की आवश्यकता होती है। यही जीवन का सच है।
इसलिए यदि हम वास्तव में एक ऐसे कार्य को करने के लिए एक बहु-विषयक टीम को इकट्ठा नहीं कर सकते हैं जो वास्तव में अच्छा है और जो मायने रखता है, तो ऐसा केवल बहु-विषयक टीमों द्वारा ही किया जा सकता है। और एक चीज जो आवश्यक है, वह यह है कि जो व्यक्ति इन्हें चलाने जा रहा है, उसमें टीम के सदस्यों के विभिन्न दृष्टिकोणों को समझने की क्षमता होनी चाहिए, जो इस तरह की अंतःविषय टीम में आते हैं। केवल इस तरह की अंतःविषय टीमों के साथ ही हम वास्तव में कुछ हासिल कर सकते हैं।"

ಶ್ರೀ ಜಿ ವಿ ಸುಬ್ರಮಣ್ಯಂ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ -
“ನಾವು ಏನನ್ನು ಪೂರೈಕೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದರ ಪ್ರತಿಯಾಗಿ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಇರುವುದರ ನಡುವಿನ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸ ಏನಿರಬಹುದು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನಾವು ಪರಿಗಣನೆಗೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇವೆ. ನಾವು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿವೆ ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಾವು ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಾಚೆಯಿರುವ ಕೆಲವು ಪರಿಹಾರವನ್ನು ತಂದಂತಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ ಆದರೆ ಭಾರತ, ಆಫ್ರಿಕಾ, ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಹಲವಾರು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಆದಾಯ ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೂಕ್ತವಾದ ಪರಿಹಾರ ತಂದಿದ್ದೇವೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ ನಮಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತತೆ ಏನೆಂದರೆ ಅಂತಹ ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣ ಯಂತ್ರವನ್ನು ಚಾಲನೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಅವರ ಬಳಿ CAPEX ಹಾಗೂ OPEX ಹಣ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಈ ದೇಶಗಳ ಪೈಕಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತರಬೇತಿ ಹೊಂದಿದ ಮಾನವ ಬಲ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆ ದೇಶಗಳಾದ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೂ ರೇಡಿಯೋಥೆರಪಿಗೆ ಅವಕಾಶ ದೊರೆಯುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಲು ನಾವು ಬಯಸಿದಾಗ ನಾವು ಗಮನಿಸಬೇಕಾದ ಮೂರು ಅಂಶಗಳು ಇವಾಗಿವೆ.
ಅನ್ವಯಿಕ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇಂಜನಿಯರಿಂಗ್, ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ನಾನು ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಬಹುದಾದ ಎರಡು ಅಂಶಗಳು ಇವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಪರಿಷ್ಕರಿಸಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಂದಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗಾಗ್ಗೆ ಬಹುಶಃ ಪ್ರತಿ ಮೂರನೇ ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಪರಿಷ್ಕರಿಸಬೇಕು, ಇದು ವಾಸ್ತವದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ವಿಷಯಗಳಾಗಿವೆ.
